Pg Art Gallery presents ‘Happy Days’, a solo exhibition by the Dutch artist Jerome Symons.
In a series of new works in different media the artist gives ironic comments on the human condition.
With photo’s, video and objects he shows situations that at first glance appear to be happy but on closer inspection turn out to be rather sad. The works touch on very different subjects in different cultures such as demonstrating artists in the Netherlands, a wedding party in Morocco, workers in Dubai and Shaolin monks in China. Together these works form an installation that questions the fiction of happiness and also the reality of sadness.
Jerome Symons has made monumental sculptures in China, Taiwan, South-Korea and in many cities in the Netherlands. Recent projects are a Human Rights monument in the city of Zaandam, Netherlands and a Speakers Point in Halıcioğlu Parkı, Istanbul (for Istanbul European Cultural Capital 2010). He was initiator and curator of the Çankaya International Public Art Manifestation 2011 and the same for the Ankara Public Art Manifestation 2012 that is currently being held until the end of October.
The exhibition ‘Happy Days’ in Pg Art Gallery is supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the celebration of 400 years of diplomatic relations between Holland and Turkey.
