Photography at Pg Art Gallery…
Continuing its commitment to supporting original and pioneering artists in the plastic arts, Pg Art Gallery opens its doors to photography with Ali Kabaş / DüşDünya, on view from 11 December 2002. Pg Art Gallery’s Pırıl Arıkonmaz describes photography as an “accessible art form,” defining Kabaş as “an artist who explores and questions with sincerity.”
Ali Kabaş / DüşDünya Photographs…
These photographs evoke the slow passage of time and the body coming to life at the water’s edge — in a place beyond the world. They are latent, otherworldly images.
Distance. Mystery. An unnamed, timeless, hidden moment. This is what remains from the entirety of the photograph. When examined in fragments, we encounter the woman’s strength, pride, and a subtly defiant posture and gaze. She is nude, yet does not fully reveal herself or her emotions. Nature creates an atmosphere — at once unsettling and enigmatic. It does not behave like familiar fragments of landscape; it does not convey easily recognizable moods such as sunshine and warmth or rain and melancholy. Instead, contrast permeates the images — in the light, in the woman’s stance against nature, and in the preservation of mystery within nudity.
Ali Kabaş’s DüşDünya photographs will be on view at Pg Art Gallery from 11 December 2002 to 11 January 2003.
