Devabil Kara

1 February - 1 March 2006

Devabil Kara’s exhibition “4th Layer,” bringing together his recent works, will take place at PG Art Gallery between February 1 and March 1, 2006. Conceived as a project inspired by archaeology, “4th Layer” was first realized by Kara in Washington, D.C., Georgetown, upon the invitation of Parish Gallery. Since the 1980s, the artist has grouped his works under titles such as “Archaeological Site,” “Traces,” and “Shadows.”

The “4th Layer” project is also documented in a monograph on Devabil Kara, featuring a text by Ahu Antmen and designed by Can Onat, published with the support of Mas Printing House.

Since the beginning of his artistic career, Devabil Kara has worked with methods such as scraping and covering. Over time, he has approached these methods through their conceptual dimensions, questioning the meaning and indicators of time itself. In the “4th Layer” exhibition, Kara presents mixed-media paintings on canvas composed of images that traverse both within and beyond time, bridging the void between past and future.
