Genco Gülan

Dream

1 - 20 May 2007

Artist Genco Gülan’s exhibition titled “Dream” meets its audience at PG Art Gallery in May. “Dream” is a continuation of Gülan’s series “Daily Mythologies.” The exhibition features paintings, sculptures, videos, and digital prints produced by the artist in recent years.

Genco Gülan, who will be holding his first solo exhibition at the Bebek-based PG Art Gallery directed by Pırıl Güleşçi Arıkonmaz, has previously exhibited in Brazil, Thailand, Korea, and Israel. He studied Social Sciences at Boğaziçi University and attended the studio of Greg Wolff. Gülan completed his Master’s degree at The New School in New York, specializing in New Media Art. In early April, he will travel to Yale University and the New York School of Visual Arts to deliver lectures under the same title. Gülan is the recipient of awards from BP, The New School, EMAF, and the Lions.

The “Dream” exhibition continues Gülan’s “Daily Mythologies” series, offering new propositions regarding one of the most significant debates in art history: the human figure and the space it inhabits. The series encompasses research on bodies recreated in virtual environments and their movement within space. Investigating motion in the third dimension and seeking to relate it to synthetic images, the exhibition is accompanied by Marcus Graf’s article titled “The Fall of Heroes,” which was published in New York Arts Magazine in previous years. A section of the “Dream” exhibition will also be presented during the summer at the Art Festival in St. Tropez.
