Painter Hunt Slonem - whose works are included in the collections of more than 50 museums and who has held over 150 solo exhibitions at many of the world’s leading galleries - is at Pg Art Gallery on May 5 with his first solo exhibition in Turkey.
In Slonem’s solo exhibition, which will continue until June 20, 14 works from different periods of the artist’s career will be presented.
Recognized as one of the most important contemporary representatives of Abstract Expressionism, the artist combines Eastern mysticism with exotic figures in his works. The vibrancy and diversity of colors, along with his repeated motifs, stand out prominently. As Slonem transfers his shifting moods onto canvas, he emphasizes the aesthetics of movement.
Born in 1951 in Kittery, Maine, the artist lived in Mexico and Nicaragua during his college years and was influenced by their cultures. Slonem moved to New York in 1972 and graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans in 1973. Represented in New York by Marlborough Gallery, the artist has, since 1973, lived and worked in his legendary New York loft together with more than 70 birds he keeps.
