Jehsong Baak, one of the most significant contemporary photographers in the world, will be in Pg Art Gallery in September.
Jehsong Baak was born in 1967 in South Korea and he left his country at the age of nine for the suburbs in North Carolina, Alabama, and Washington D.C. After studying architecture in Michigan University for a short while, he moved to New York at nineteen and devoted his life to photography which he had begun working on two years earlier. Baak moved to Paris in 1998 and completely dedicated his life to photography.
In Baak’s black and white photographs, time and space are obscured and emotion comes to the foreground. He says that his greatest artistic inspiration is the visual world of Robert Frank and Joseph Koudelka and he travels through the obscurity of spaces, frontiers and time. The photographs in his book “là ou ailleurs” (there or elsewhere) have been selected by Robert Delphire, the legendary photography editor who played a crucial role in the careers of both Frank and Koudelka.
The Jehsong Baak photography exhibition will be showcased in Pg Art Gallery from September 19 at 18:00 to October 30.
