Reysi Kamhi

Under Construction

29 June - 14 July 2010

Young artist Reysi Kamhi meets the audience at Bebek PG Art Gallery with her first solo exhibition, Under Construction.

As a result of the technological revolution, virtual reality has transformed the ways we perceive and engage with world events. Today, social media networks such as Facebook and Twitter promise a faster and more accessible world. Through cyberspace, our modes of reading and perception are changing. In this paradise of images and information, we even experience our sexuality through visuality, distancing ourselves from the tangible reality of the world. Moving with the intention of exposing to experience — and re-materializing — the disembodiment brought about by internet culture and the connections built solely through visuality, Reysi Kamhi transforms the images of what we experience virtually into handmade, self-produced objects.

Under Construction is a project shaped by images the artist has created — and will continue to create — based on the virtual realm. In this project, the gallery goes beyond being merely a space for presentation and becomes a studio where production also takes place. Throughout the exhibition, the gallery exists as a space under construction — a living, evolving environment that changes daily. Beginning June 29, the artist will transform the gallery into a studio four days a week, from Tuesday to Friday, producing the works on site and gradually forming the exhibition. At the closing reception on July 13, the completed exhibition will be presented to viewers. The development process of the exhibition can be followed on Twitter at www.twitter.com/pg_reysikamhi
