Pg Art Gallery is pleased to host the exhibition “The Staircase Is a Circle,” curated by Meltem Sırtıkara, between November 21 – December 20, 2025.
The exhibition focuses on the artist’s existence, taking inspiration from the creative strategies of breaking, bending, and blending proposed by David Eagleman and Anthony Brandt as fundamental tools in the evolution of ideas. Within this framework, the exhibition seeks to construct a new spatial narrative, using the concept of the staircase as a connective element. This newly imagined place becomes, in its wholeness, the circle itself — a structure where imagination is transformed into reality.
The staircase, with its ascending steps, is approached not merely as a topographical element but as a structure that connects with the universe. The relationship established between the space shaped by terrestrial forms and the body’s experience of moving through the terrain reveals the link between the impulse to transform the environment and the act of experiencing and constructing architecture. The participating artists build the steps of an alternative staircase — one that resists hierarchy.
The exhibition is structured around a contrasting dialogue between a fictional, fantastical character longing for reality and a spatial designer envisioned by this character.
Accompanying the exhibition are the artists’ responses to the following question posed by this fictional character:
“Can you describe your means of expression and your relationship with space?”
Through their answers, the artists make visible both their personal creative practices and their subjective connections to space, each grounded in their own reality.
