Günnur Özsoy
Günnur Özsoy (born 1969, Ankara), received her diploma from Marmara University Industrial Design Department and continued her education in Harrow College of the Polytechnic of Central London (now Westminster University) Silver Work and Jewelry department. In Istanbul, she is represented by PG Art Gallery and in Ankara, she is represented by Gallery Siyah Beyaz. She continues her studies and life in Istanbul.
Her works have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions at PG Art Gallery and Gallery Siyah Beyaz and public spaces around Turkey since 1990’s. Özsoy’s sculptures can be found in many public and private collections, Istabul Modern being one of them.
In her minimalistic sculptures, she focuses on organic forms (e.g. the development of a reef or a life viewed through a microscope) with the use of polyester, brass, felt, bronze and marble. Inside these hard shell materials, she explores the consciousness and the emptiness that belongs to that consciousness. In this negative space, “the organic one” is experienced as a displacement between material and form.
