Pg Art Gallery is delighted to host Metin Ertürk’s solo exhibition, La Cerise Sur le Gâteau, from November 28 to December 29, 2023.
Metin Ertürk’s Void series explores the deep emotional voids stemming from past experiences. These voids are often deeply connected to personal experiences, relationships, and even traumatic events. According to Jacques Lacan’s theory of objet petit a, the desire to fulfill these emotional voids leads us toward an object of desire. However, the objects that reflect our emotions are not always meaningful or reciprocal. In the Void series, the artist presents his works as objects of desire, believing that understanding the origins of emotional voids inherent in human existence can mark the beginning of an inner journey. While it may not always be possible to completely fill these voids, inner awareness and acceptance allow us to navigate negative emotions in a more constructive way.
The Void series, born from the emotions and experiences that shape Metin Ertürk’s artistic process, is narrated through the French idiom la cerise sur le gâteau (the cherry on the cake). This phrase highlights the positive side of a situation, emphasizing the presence of an element that enhances and completes it. Technically, the Void series examines the relationship between craft and art through forms shaped on the potter’s wheel, while reinterpreting local culture with Terra Sigillata slip inspired by Ancient Greece. These works, resonating with the artist’s emotional exploration, invite viewers on their own introspective journeys.
