Beauty and Other Secrets

6 October - 6 November 2009

Pg Art Gallery is proud to present the photography show of the New York based photographer Maura Sullivan. The exhibition titled 'Beauty and Other Secrets' will be open between the dates of October, 6 and November, 6 2009. Through her black and white photographs, the artist's friends and family tell mysterious stories that take part in hidden settings.

"Most of my subjects are people that I know. This allows for a great intimacy. I am fascinated by the history of the old buildings in New York city where I live and other abandoned houses, hotels and forgotten places where I have travelled. I search for what is hidden there that tells a story. These lost places of beauty, decay and former glory, inspire cinematic moments. In these places my friends and family take on a different persona and reveal a hidden part of themselves."

Maura Sullivan was born in 1971 in Hartford, Connecticut. She graduated from Syracuse University B.F.A. in 1993 and has attended the international school of photography. She currently lives in Brooklyn, New York. Her work is part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and is widely exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions in New York, Connecticut, Oregon, Washington, Texas, The Netherlands, Poland and Turkey. Her photographs have been published in Shots Magazine, Antiques Weekly, Private International Review of Photographs and Text, The Sun and New York Magazine.
