Devran Mursaloğlu
Devran Mursaloğlu (b. 1961, Istanbul) is an artist whose work seamlessly blends architectural form with artistic expression. She completed her studies in Architecture and Engineering at the Institut Supérieur Industriel de Bruxelles in Brussels before returning to Istanbul to pursue her artistic education under the guidance of Devabil Kara at Marmara University.
Mursaloğlu, who currently lives and works in Istanbul, has been represented by PG Art Gallery since 2011. Her innovative use of paper as a primary medium has garnered widespread recognition in the Turkish art scene. Her work has been featured in notable exhibitions such as the Mardin Biennial (2010), Tahtakale Baths in Istanbul (2011), and Alsancak Station in Izmir (2009), among others. She is regarded as one of Turkey’s leading paper artists, gaining prominence for her distinctive manipulation of the material.
In her practice, Mursaloğlu explores the evolution of forms and shapes, often emerging from a single material. As these forms undergo spatial transformation, their inherent weight and complexity intensify. Through this process, she reflects the intricacies and chaos of contemporary Turkey, using visual and spatial metaphors to examine public spaces through the lens of basic lines, points, and surfaces.
